The Portuguese Crown is concerned about the Diamantino District in the second half of the 18th century, not only because it has the country’s richest mines and is the center for ideas about rebellion, but also because of Xica da Silva. The former slave married João Fernandes, a representative of the Crown in Brazil who became rich exploiting the mines. He made her the Diamond Queen and honors her every wish, including those related to revenge for humiliation during her slave days. But the Portuguese king will send an emissary to the colony to put an end to Xica’s power.
